Child dies after being pulled from Catawba County lake

A 4-year-old Catawba County boy died Monday after he was pulled from Lake Lookout on Saturday evening.

The boy’s parents, who live near Newton, were nearby when the child was found in the lake near Riverbend Road and someone on the scene performed CPR.

The boy is believed to have been in the water for about 10 minutes.

“He was down there a good bit,” said Lt. William Boston of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders were able to revive the boy before he was airlifted to a local hospital, but he died on Monday afternoon, according to sources. The child’s name has not been released.
