CMS names principals at Idlewild, University Park

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board has approved new principals for Idlewild and University Park Creative Arts elementary schools.

Larenda Denien will become principal at Idlewild Elementary in east Charlotte, and Jaime Tecza will be principal at University Park Creative Arts Elementary in northwest Charlotte.

Denien has been assistant principal at Walter G. Byers School since 2011. Before that, she taught at Smithfield Elementary from 2003 to 2007 and was math facilitator and dean of students from 2007 to 2011 at Steele Creek Elementary.

She earned a bachelor of arts from Fairmont (W.Va.) State University and a masters from Gardner-Webb University.

Tecza comes to University Park from W.M. Irvin Elementary in Cabarrus County, where he has been assistant principal since 2011. He served as assistant principal from 2010 to 2011 at Boger Elementary in Cabarrus County.

Before that, Tecza taught at Blythe Elementary in CMS from 2000 to 2007 and was an administrator at Bradley Middle (2008-2009) and Davidson IB Middle (2009-2010).

He earned a bachelors degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pa., and a masters from UNC Charlotte.
