Pedestrian struck by hit-and-run driver on Brookshire

A pedestrian was struck and injured by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run accident early Tuesday morning on Brookshire Boulevard, police say.

The incident was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Brookshire Boulevard. That is a short distance northwest of Interstate 85.

Police said the victim, a 51-year-old man, was not using a crosswalk and not crossing at an intersection when he tried to get across Brookshire Boulevard.

The man said he was hit by a silver or gray pickup truck that was outbound on Brookshire Boulevard. Police said the victim was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The man’s condition improved, authorities said, and he is expected to survive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police looked in the area for the truck but were not successful. Police closed two lanes of Brookshire Boulevard for several hours for an investigation, but all lanes were open by 6:45 a.m.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-336-8862, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
