The Pisces experience has landed in Lake Norman, recently opening its second location in Mooresville. Its first location in Charlotte, opened inside the Metropolitan in April 2010 serving sushi, hibachi, Japanese appetizers and assorted entrees well fused with Asian inspirations.

Off Williamson Road in Mooresville, Pisces Sushi is situated discreetly behind a Sonic, anchoring a strip of retail stores. Step inside the space and the high traffic shopping center slips away into something more open and cosmopolitan. The sushi bar is the first thing you see entering the space and rightly so. Pisces sushi receives weekly deliveries of high-quality fish flown in directly from the Brooklyn Fish Market which means the fish is fresh and the selection, unique.

In the center of the restaurant is the bar, separating the sushi bar and lounge area from ‘formal’ dining area. The bar at Pisces is a hallmark since seasoned mixologist Bob Peters joined the team in March 2012. Peters crafts original cocktails using locally sourced and well-crafted ingredients. One might consider him is ‘farm to glass’. Peters continually stretches the bounds of invention while honoring the classics of cocktail history. He mixes, infuses and devises his ever evolving menu to reflect the individual palates of his customers. Look for the champagne ice and Peters’ latest potion, a ruby red Maestro Dobel Tequila cocktail with fresh mint and lemon mixed with dried hibiscus and Sorachi Ace Japanese hop infused Dolin Blanc vermouth. Catch him every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at the Mooresville location.

The official dining area is eye-catching with striking black and red lanterns hanging in throughout the room and the signature cubby hole booths where guests can dine in privacy. A limited menu and specials are offered during the lunch hour, but dinner is where you can experience the restaurant’s best offerings. Start with the tuna bruschetta, an umami-packed combination of tuna, avocado and mango tossed in a citrus sesame soy sauce topped with black caviar and served with toasty rounds. For a signature sushi roll, try the Screaming O- spicy tuna and shrimp tempura topped with seared tuna, jalapeno and “screaming O” sauce which contains a wasabi oil. Also on the menu is the Loco Moco, a fusion inspired by a Hawaiian staple. Pick your choice of protein and enjoy it over rice with mozzarella cheese, tomato and a fried egg served in a clay pot. Service at Pisces is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. For Lake Norman folks, Pisces is Queen City charm fused into an unlikely location with date night written all over it.
