A person walking on Interstate 85 near Concord was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle.
The incident was reported shortly after 5:30 a.m. on southbound I-85 near Exit 55. That is the N.C. 73 exit, just south of Concord.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said late Thursday morning that it was still investigating the incident. The identity of the person killed had not been released.
Troopers closed the southbound lanes of I-85 for about an hour after the incident, re-routing traffic off the highway at the N.C. 73 exit, then across N.C. 73 and back onto I-85. Traffic was snarled for about 7 miles at one point.
All lanes were open again by 9:30 a.m.
