YORK COUNTY As former Bachelorette star Emily Maynard walked down the aisle and wed her fourth fiance under an oak tree in western York County last weekend, a paparazzi photographer accused two security guards of assaulting him, deputies said.
People Magazine reports that Maynard, who gained notoriety when she appeared on the reality dating show The Bachelor and then went on to star as the series centerpiece in its spinoff, The Bachelorette, married Tyler Johnson, an automotive management consultant, in a rustic wedding on the Johnsons family farm in western York County last Saturday night.
Her 8-year-old daughter, Ricki, served as the maid of honor.
The wedding, People Magazine reports, was a surprise. About 200 guests arrived in Smyrna to attend what they thought would be an engagement party for the couple. They soon realized the couple had been planning their surprise wedding for three months, the magazine wrote.
But, according to a York County Sheriffs report, Todd Matthew Henrich presumably an uninvited guest called deputies at about 7 p.m. to report that he had been assaulted by two security guards.
Once authorities arrived at the intersection between Walnut Street and Ebenezer Road in Smyrna, Henrich, 23, told them he was a professional photographer. The guards told deputies that Henrich, the report states, was a paparazzo trying to photograph the wedding.
They explained that the bride was a celebrity, the report states, and Henrich had followed the wedding party from Charlotte trying to take pictures of the event. Henrich told police the two guards, 45 and 52, both of North Carolina, approached him while he was filming and swatted at his arm.
Henrich recorded the incident, the report states. Deputies watched the video and saw one of the guards slap at the photographers arms. But, the footage does not make it clear if the guard physically touched Henrich.
The guard told deputies he did not touch Henrich, the report states. Henrich claims the guard did.
Because the video was inconclusive, deputies did not make any arrests but warned the security guards not to be overzealous, but to remain reasonable while providing security, according to the report. Henrich continued taking pictures while deputies were still on scene.
Efforts to reach Henrich, who lives in Springfield, Va., have been unsuccessful Thursday morning. Requests for comments from Maynard and her press contacts have also been unsuccessful.
Maynard, of Charlotte, had been engaged four times, including to the contestant who won her season of The Bachelorette. The Charlotte Observer reported in February that Maynards very-public love-life resulted in embarrassment and led her to service in the church and ministry. Thats when she met Johnson.
She and Johnson, both 28, were engaged in January.
