HARRISBURG Portions of two heavily used Cabarrus County roads in the Harrisburg area – Hickory Ridge and Stallings roads – will close Monday morning for a project lasting several months. The closings will enable crews to work on the Roberta Road grade separation, one of several projects that are part of the Piedmont Improvement Program to upgrade rail lines between Charlotte and Raleigh. The N.C. Department of Transportation said the area just east of the rail crossings at Hickory Ridge and Stallings roads will be closed. Stallings Road will be raised 6 to 7 feet in the area, with work expected to last about four months. The intersection of the two roads will be closed so turn lanes can be added, and Hickory Ridge Road will be closed for about two months. When the project is finished, Roberta Road will be extended from N.C. 49 to Stallings Road, with a bridge carrying the road over the rail lines; the at-grade crossings at Hickory Ridge Road and Robinson Church Road will be closed; and road improvements will be added to Stallings Road, School Circle, N.C. 49 and Hickory Ridge Road.
