Teen drowns on Lake Twitty near Monroe

Firefighters from Monroe and Charlotte recovered the body of a teenager who fell into Lake Twitty in Union County on Thursday and drowned.

Authorities told reporters at the scene that the 18-year-old man was fishing on the lake with his grandfather when he had a seizure and fell into the water.

The grandfather took the boat back to land and called 911.

Authorities hadn’t released the identity of the teen late Thursday.

Lake Twitty, the reservoir formed by Twitty Dam, is on Stewart’s Creek in Union County and provides drinking water for the city of Monroe, according to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. The city is six miles southwest of the water source. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
