Barnette Elementary

School supplies: School supplies can be ordered now for the 2014-15 school year through the EduKit Program. Orders submitted by June 30 will receive an early bird discount and free shipping. Kits ordered by June 30 will arrive by the first day of school. Kits will be available online through EduKit’s Last Chance program until July 11, but extra fees will apply. A link to the latest supply lists by grade can be found under the “Parent Information” tab at http://schools.cms.k12.nc.us/barnetteES/Pages/Default.aspx. To order, visit www.edukitinc.com and enter “Barnette” into the “Find your school” field.

J.V. Washam Elementary

Open House: 3-4:30 p.m. for kindergarten-second grade, 5:30-7 p.m. for grades 3-5, both on Aug. 21. Families will be able to meet the teachers, buy agendas and have a chance to join the PTA.

Winding Springs Elementary

Eagles Nest Dance Camp: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 17 and Aug. 14 for rising kindergarten, first and second grades; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 18 and Aug. 15 for rising third- through sixth-graders. Dancers need to bring their own lunch, snacks and water. Cost is $30 per day, per child. Payment is due each morning at drop off. Each camp will feature different activities and choreography. Bailey Middle

Band awards: Bailey’s seventh- and eighth-grade Performing Band earned a rating of “superior” and a third-place award at the recent Music in the Parks Festival in Williamsburg, Va.
