Wreck closes I-77 lane near Mooresville

The left lane of Interstate 77 southbound is closed at Exit 33 south of Mooresville because of a vehicle wreck.

The lane was closed at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to reopen by 11:30 a.m., the N.C. Department of Transportation said.

The right lane of westbound Interstate 40 in Iredell County was closed early this morning because of an overturned tractor-trailer.

The truck overturned at mile marker 142 west of Statesville, near the Sharon School Road exit.

The lane reopened at 11:30 a.m.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, meanwhile, are at the scene of a wreck at Monroe Road and Alcott Street. The wreck happened at about 6:45 a.m.

Other wrecks are being reported on Sunset Road at the Interstate 77 northbound ramp and at Albemarle and North Sharon Amity roads.

At 7:45 a.m., police reported a collision with injuries at Newell Baptist Church and Old Concord roads. At 8:25 a.m., police were investigating a wreck with injuries in the 1500 block of South Mint Street.

In other traffic news:

Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close lanes on Idlewild Road between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday as part of the $51 million widening project to convert Independence Boulevard to an expressway between Sharon Amity Road and Wallace Lane.

These detours will be posted so crews can continue utility work on the project:

• Motorists approaching from Independence Boulevard: Take Independence Boulevard to Sharon Amity Road to Monroe Road and then back onto Idlewild Road/Rama Road.

• Motorists approaching from Monroe Road: Take Monroe Road to Sharon Amity Road to Independence Boulevard, and then back to Idlewild Road.
