Family Affair

Gabriela (Gaby) Hernandez wasn’t expecting Jesus Sample to propose on their trip to Puerto Rico. However, with both her parents traveling to his family reunion with them, he knew the timing was perfect. “We were all going to play a blindfold game, and guess who was first?” says Gaby. When his dad took off the blindfold, Jesus was on one knee. “I was screaming ‘yes, yes, yes’ before he even asked the question.”

The couple kept the décor simple, blending classic and modern style for a timeless design. Color was kept to a minimum, with ivory and white hues throughout and the occasional pop of royal blue and silver. For flowers, Gaby worked closely with Jonathan from The Place for Flowers to design the arrangements. The tall centerpieces of ivory and white hydrangeas, peonies, and calla lilies complemented The Urban Garden’s modern look, while also highlighting the couple’s classic style. As a finishing touch to their blended vision, they chose an elegant monogramed cake with an edible bow topper.

With so many guests traveling from out of town, spending time with family was Jesus and Gaby’s top priority. For the bride, some of her most cherished family memories occurred before the ceremony. With Nancy from I Do Wedding Consulting taking care of the finishing touches, and Erin from Erin Ashley Makeup perfecting her wedding day look, Gaby was able to soak in the day with those closest to her. “It was a moment of family and joy in getting ready for a special day,” Gaby says. “Everything was taken care of and it was a very peaceful moment for me.”
