Choosing a venue may be one of the toughest decisions a couple will make for their wedding, but for Sara Faulkenberry and Chris Beaver it was an obvious choice.
The pair met on a blind date to the Carolina Cup, a horse race held every year in Camden, S.C., so heading back to the tracks grand stands was the perfect way to start their own journey. In true derby fashion, the pair held their ceremony just in front of the actual track. Their guestsmint juleps in handgot to watch the ceremony from the stands.
During the ceremony, there was a light rain sprinkle, but the weather managed to clear and give us the most gorgeous sunset. We felt so lucky we were able to witness such a beautiful scene with our family and friends, says Sara.
After the ceremony, the reception was held in a clear tent with twinkle lights overhead in the paddock area. The space was completely bare, so it was a blank slate, she explains. Anything and everything had to be brought in, so we got to create the feel that we wanted.
With the help of florist Fern Studio, Sara was able to bring classic derby elegance to the tables and even to the stands. Her caterer, Jack from Aberdeen catering, was a huge conributor to the theme, too; Being from Camden, he had many race and horse themed touches to bring to the table. Jack was amazing. He does food thats kind of Southern gourmet, so I just let him take the lead. All of the extras he brought, like vintage china and cool statues for the buffet table, really put the finishing touch on everything.
At the end of the night, Sara and Chris were whisked away in his 1989 Grand Wagoneer, the same car they take to tailgate when they return to the Carolina Cup year after year.Featured VendorsPhotography
