Pedestrian killed by vehicle on Rowan highway

A pedestrian was killed before daybreak Thursday when he was struck and killed by a vehicle on a rural Rowan County road, the N.C. Highway Patrol says.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was walking along N.C. 152 near Rock Grove Church Road when he was hit by a tractor-trailer shortly after 5 a.m., troopers said. That is in southeast Rowan County, between China Grove and Rockwell.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene, authorities said.

Troopers closed N.C. 152 for several hours, but the road was reopened around 8 a.m.
