Leftovers (10pm, HBO) - HBO debuts a dour new series based on the Tom Perrotta novel of the same name. It was co-created by Perrotta and Damon Lindelof (Lost) and takes place after a mysterious rapture-like event vanishes 2 percent of the worlds population childs play if youve been watching The Last Ship on TNT, though the tone here is much, much darker.

N.C. Bookwatch (Noon, UNC-TV) - Tom Eamon talks about The Making of a Southern Democracy: North Carolina Politics from Kerr Scott to Pat McCrory (airs again on Thursday at 5 p.m.).
Last Tango in Halifax (8pm, UNC-TV) - In the Season 2 premiere, Alan and Celia seize the day, while Gillian deals with old skeletons.
Endeavour (9pm, UNC-TV) - This Masterpiece Mystery series starts its second season with Morse returning to duty after a four-month leave and again being paired with DI Thursday. Their first case is an apparent suicide of a John Doe that Morse connects to two other cases.
Nurse Jackie (9pm, Showtime) - In the Season 6 finale, Akalitis orders Jackie to take a drug test or admit shes using an admission that would come with a big demotion and pay cut. Jackie spinning out of control in this episode isnt unexpected, but still hard to watch.
Californication (9:30pm, Showtime) - In the series finale (thank God), Hank makes a life-altering decision.
Reckless (10pm, ABC) - A new drama from ABC about a man trying to free his wife, who has been imprisoned overseas during a political uprising. It stars Patrick Fugit, Eloise Mumford and Naveen Andrews.
Penny Dreadful (10pm, Showtime) - Season 1 ends with Vanessa and Sir Malcolm facing their worst nightmares.
Vicious (10:30pm, UNC-TV) - This new British comedy series stars Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as an elderly gay couple who have lived together for nearly 50 years. In the first episode, the men host a wake for a dear friend.
