Today’s traffic: Congestion slows Johnston, I-485

The slowest traffic flow in the Charlotte area at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday is on Johnston Road and on nearby Interstate 485 in southeast Mecklenburg County.

Heavy traffic volume is responsible for the slowdowns in each case. Since the morning commute is winding down, conditions should improve by 10 a.m.

Here is the latest update:

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-40 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

Statesville Road at Gilead Road, Huntersville ... Collision with injuries; moderate delays.

East

Elizabeth Avenue at Kings Drive ... Collision; moderate delays.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.

West

Billy Graham Parkway ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph between West Boulevard and I-85.
