Caldwell County authorities said a tip from the public led them to arrest a man on drug and firearms charges Monday.
Steven Wayne Patton, 22, of Lenoir was arrested by Caldwell County sheriff’s deputies and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine; maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance purposes; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigators said they received a call from a person who reported seeing a suspicious vehicle and person at the Market Basket convenience store on Morganton Boulevard near Lenoir. The caller said a man in the car had a gun, and the caller provided authorities with a description of the vehicle and the license tag number.
The vehicle was gone by the time deputies arrived, but they spotted the vehicle not far away.
Investigators said deputies found a gun on the floorboard of the vehicle, along with 23.7 grams of meth and other items that deputies said can be used in the sale of narcotics. Patton was jailed under $75,000 bail.
