Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigate Friday morning shooting death

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 31-year-old man in the 1300 block of Norris Avenue Friday morning.

Metro Division patrol officers responded to a call at 10 a.m. and found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died from the injuries, authorities said.

He was identified as Raymelle Jake Smith. Authorities believe that Smith and the suspect knew each other and that the shooting wasn’t random.

Detectives were canvassing the neighborhood for additional witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Joe DePriest
