A Rock Hill man was taken to the hospital on the Fourth of July after a “pipe bomb” exploded while he was lighting it, according to a police report.

The man, 47, had “severe injuries to his right leg,” the report states.

Officers were called to the house on Hemlock Avenue to assist the fire department and were given a “metal pipe with the side blown out,” according to the report. Several agencies responded, including the bomb squad, and they searched the man’s home.

The investigation is still underway. No charges have been filed.
