Natural gas leak stopped near UNCC campus

No injuries were reported Wednesday morning when a natural gas line was ruptured in Charlotte’s University City area, fire officials said.

The line was ruptured about 9:15 a.m. at North Tryon Street and Institute Circle. That is near the UNC Charlotte campus.

Fire officials said it took a crew of 21 firefighters about 25 minutes to stop the leak. There were no reports of evacuations needed.

Authorities did not say what caused the line to be ruptured, but construction is taking place in that area.
