Belmont police probe woman’s gunshot death

Belmont police say officers found a woman shot to death Thursday morning inside a residence near the city’s central business district.

Authorities said officers were called about 11:30 a.m. to help an emergency medical crew with a gunshot victim on North Main Street near Catawba Street. Officers said they found a dead woman inside the home.

Police said they are working with Gaston County police’s Crime Scene Unit and the Gaston County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. The name of the victim has not been released, and police describe the case as a “death investigation.”
