Traffic is slow on intbound East Independence Boulevard due to a mulit-vehicle accident near Eastway Drive, Monday morning, July 14, 2014

Several construction projects and road closures are scheduled to begin Monday morning across the Charlotte region.

The projects are on Sandy Ridge Road southwest of Monroe in Union County, and on Close Ridge Road near Albemarle in Stanly County.

A previously scheduled closure on Morningside Drive in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood area has been postponed indefinitely, according to an update from city transportation officials.

And as usual, there are collisions and other problems to deal with.

At 9 a.m., the biggest problem is a collision on inbound East Independence Boulevard near Pierson Drive. That wreck is slowing traffic back beyond Sharon Amity Road, toward Idlewild Road.

There also are two collisions and a disabled vehicle on Pineville-Matthews Road, and a wreck in the uptown area at Stonewall and College streets.

Here is the 9 a.m. update:

Road closures

Morningside Drive ... This road will be closed between Commonwealth Avenue and Ivey Drive through Aug. 7. Crews will be working on a sewer project.

The detour uses Commonwealth Avenue, The Plaza and Central Avenue, or Commonwealth Avenue, Briar Creek Road and Central Avenue.

Sandy Ridge Road ... The road will be closed over Little Richardson Creek until about Oct. 17. Crews will be replacing the existing bridge. The detour uses Stack Road and Bruce Thomas Road back to Sandy Ridge Road.

Close Ridge Road ... The road will be closed over Little Mountain Creek until about Nov. 7, so crews can replace the bridge. The detour route uses Ridge Road, Mountain View Church Road, Kirk Road, N.C. 740 and Laton Road back to Ridge Road.

While completion is set for early November, the N.C. Department of Transportation said work on vegetation and forestation will continue into next May.
