Employee dies at Gaston County plant

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. A man has been killed while working at a Gaston County plant.

Emergency workers were called to the Hi-Tex plant near Kings Mountain shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday.

North Carolina Labor Department spokeswoman Dolores Quesenberry said the worker had died from a crushed skull when emergency workers arrived.

His name has not been released.

Hi-Tex Vice President Chip King says the plant called the state Occupational Health and Safety division to help investigate the death.

Quesenberry says that's normal procedure and should take several months. She says the agency will determine workplace safety violations contributed to the man's death.
