On the 4th of July weekend nineteen years ago, we drove to Columbia for a family reunion at my grandparent’s lake house…

Seventeen years ago around the same time, my grandfather suffered a massive stroke…

Fifteen years ago we were involved in a minor hit-and-run car accident within a mile of home as we returned from watching the fireworks display in Uptown Charlotte…

Thirteen years ago we celebrated our first fourth at Pine Lake…

Eleven years ago, John spent the week of the holiday on the couch, stricken with a case of strep; Brian missed the fireworks that year too after deciding to go down the bounce-house waterslide in his dress clothes…

Nine years ago, I cut up tree branches and stacked limbs along the side of the road at our new home instead of playing tennis and hanging at the pool…

Eight years ago we invited friends over for dinner and to watch the pyrotechnic show at Pine Lake…

Seven years ago, we tried to survive the unthinkable, surrounding ourselves with as many friends as possible to get through the day…

Four years ago, we hosted our last 4th of July gathering…

Two years ago we decided to celebrate the day at the lake…

This year I packed, moved boxes to storage units in both Charlotte and Chapin, returned to the house to do more packing and ended the day by walking over to watch the Pine Lake fireworks one more time…

I’m not sure why I can recall so many 4th of July holidays from my past, though I must confess, the most recent one I’m presently trying to forget…

Since mid-June, relocation preparations demanded an ever increasing level of focus, hard work and determination that I wasn’t sure I could achieve, much less maintain…

Through grace, faith and very little sleep, we managed to get 99.5% of our belongings moved, donated and/or sold in time for the final walk-through last Friday.

John is elated…we’re both exhausted…I’m not sure what else I’m feeling yet…

Sorry I’ve been away for several weeks…I should be back on schedule now!

We are continuing to give away pink & black silicone bracelets.  To request one or many, please email the quantity desired and your mailing address to rememberbrian@mindspring.com.

Tammy will update her blog weekly…
