1 shot dead in Chester

A young man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Chester, in that South Carolina city’s first homicide case of the year.

The shooting was reported shortly after 11 p.m., police said, in the 100 block of Pinckney Street. That is in the downtown district, about a quarter-mile from the Chester County Courthouse and other government buildings.

Police said they received a call about a possible shooting. Officers found the victim dead of a gunshot wound. Investigators have not discussed a possible motive or identified a suspect.

The name of the victim was not released, but multiple broadcast reports Thursday morning said the victim was a 16-year-old.
