Gaston woman who faked ocean disappearance going to trial in November

By Michael Gordon

Amy Robinson, the Gaston County woman whose disappearance this month touched off a three-day coastal search, is scheduled to go to trial in November on the charges she apparently was trying to avoid.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that the case will start Nov. 3.

Robinson, 42, faked her disappearance over the Fourth of July weekend after missing several Mecklenburg court dates on charges ranging from financial identity theft to forgery.

Her husband reported July 5 that he last saw Robinson waist-deep in the North Myrtle Beach surf. Her criminal record dates to 1992, with charges mostly in Union, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. She spent at least two years in prison. Michael Gordon
