2-alarm fire at northwest Charlotte plant

Firefighters were battling a two-alarm fire Saturday night at an industrial site in northwest Charlotte, authorities said.

The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of Tar Heel Road, according to Charlotte fire officials. That is the site of Cumulus Fibres, a textile plant, and it is off Hovis Road.

A spokesman for the Charlotte Fire Department said a second alarm was sounded about 9:30 p.m., and he said heavy smoke was showing. Fire officials confirmed that the blaze was in a warehouse.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Motorists should avoid the area until at least 11 p.m.
