Police charged a suspected gang member with drug trafficking after police responded to a large disturbance in east Charlotte on Sunday.

Cesar Jonathan Nande, 22, was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for selling drugs and possession of a stolen firearm.

Officers responded to reports of a disturbance at 6135 Country Walk Drive, a quiet cul-de-sac near the intersection of Albemarle Road and Central Avenue. Nande, identified by police as a known gang member, rents a home there. When officers arrived, they saw two groups totaling about 40 people involved in a verbal fight.

As officers were breaking up the disturbance, someone fired a gunshot in the back yard. Police searched the house and recovered a stolen 9 mm pistol and a revolver.

Nande was carrying $3,346 when he was arrested, according to police. Inside the house, officers found 50 grams of cocaine and 50 grams of marijuana.

He was in Mecklenburg jail on Monday under a $2,045,500 bond. Cleve Wootson
