Union County 911 service restored

MONROE Union County officials said Tuesday that 911 service had been restored for all cell phone users.

A technical problem prevented Verizon customers from calling 911 directly for much of the day. Customers were asked to were unable to call another emergency line.

But Verizon crews worked during the day to make repairs and 911 service was restored Tuesday evening, said Brett Vines, a spokesman for the county.

He said earlier Tuesday there had been no reports of residents experiencing problems reaching 911. People using a regular land line should continue to use the 911 number, officials said.
