Mooresville-based Lowe’s Inc. announced the opening of a new customer support center Tuesday that will bring 1,000 jobs to Indianapolis.
The home improvement retailer said the new facility will complement its two existing centers – one in Wilkesboro and another in Albuquerque, N.M. – and will support sales, delivery and repair services nationwide.
Company spokeswoman Amanda Manna said in an email that the company does not anticipate any job losses in Wilkesboro as a result of the new Indianapolis facility.
She said more than 900 locations were considered for the new center, but she couldn’t say whether any of those were in North Carolina. The company decided on Indianapolis because of its business-friendly atmosphere and workforce experienced in customer service, she said.
Lowe’s employs nearly 7,900 in Indiana and will begin hiring immediately for the new center, which is set to open in early 2015.
The company announced it would spend more than $20 million to buy, renovate and equip the 14,000-square-foot call center. Indiana’s Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $5.5 million in tax credits and $100,000 in training grants for the job creation plans. Staff writer Ely Portillo contributed.
