A man wanted in connection with the June 29 stabbing death of a District of Columbia woman was arrested Tuesday in Charlotte, police said.

Michael Gayle, 33, of Washington, D.C., was taken into custody by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and U.S. marshals. He was jailed in Mecklenburg County and is awaiting extradition to the District of Columbia.

Homicide detectives in Washington have been looking for Gayle since early July. He was wanted in connection with the stabbing death of 31-year-old Eboni Domally. Her body was found in the early morning hours of July 2 at her home in southeast Washington.

A few days later, police in the District of Columbia named Gayle as a suspect. According to multiple media reports in Washington, he was the father of one of Domally’s three children.
