Eight charged with driving while impaired

Police arrested and charged eight motorists with driving while impaired at an overnight DWI checkpoint in the 6500 block of South Boulevard.

Ten motorists were charged with driving while their license was revoked and 26 for having no operator’s license.

Four drivers were charged with drug offenses, two for carrying a concealed weapon and one for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Police issued 22 citations for tag, inspection and other violations.

The checkpoint, from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., netted a total of 73 charges, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Sgt. David Sloan said.

Officers from the UNCC and Matthews police departments assisted.
