Gastonia man dies in 1-car wreck

A 19-year-old man died after the car he was driving overturned in front of Rhyne Elementary in Gastonia early Saturday, according to Gastonia Police.

Tony Scott Tyler Lewis, of Gastonia, was driving a 1997 Honda Accord when the vehicle left the roadway in front of the school, struck two trees and overturned, police said . Lewis was not wearing a seat belt, police said. No other cars were involved.

Lewis was taken to Caromount Regional Medical Center with injuries and died at the hospital. Speed was a contributing factor, according to police.
