Just more than three years ago, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Brenton Bersin was a Wofford Terrier with the hope of making it to the NFL.
Now hes an example for other Terriers.
Bersin is following in the footsteps of former Wofford receiver Andy Strickland, who was a senior when Bersin was a freshman and went on to compete in camps for the Falcons and Jaguars.
I really looked up to him. (Chargers linebacker) Alvin Scioneaux and (Jaguars punter) Kasey Redfern are in training camps this year, so weve got three Wofford alums battling to make NFL rosters. Its good for the program, and its also for the young players here at Wofford knowing that if thats their dream, its achievable.
In an impassioned speech to recruits Saturday afternoon, Wofford coach Mike Ayers gave a similar message to would-be Terriers.
He told the players if they wanted a good education at a small school with a chance at the NFL, Wofford would fit their needs.
