Lincolnton woman drowns in Lake Norman

A Lincolnton woman drowned in Lake Norman on Tuesday afternoon.

Elisabeth Anna Burford, 36, of Lincolnton, had been swimming with a friend off the pier near Mitchell Lane, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Her friend reported her missing around 4:15 p.m. and first-responders from several agencies begin searching.

Sherrill’s Ford Fire and Rescue divers pulled Burford’s body from water near the pier around 6:40 p.m.
