LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. Charlotte rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth. However, the Knights needed two more.
After a two-run, ninth-inning home run from Matt Tuiasosopo, Charlotte fell Sunday to the Gwinnett Braves 5-4 in the finale of their two-game series. The teams split the series and will open a two-game series Tuesday at BB&T BallPark.
In just his third Class AAA start, Chris Beck (1-2, 4.86) threw seven solid innings, allowing three runs on eight hits in the loss.
Reliever Matt Lindstrom, on a major league rehab assignment, followed Beck and allowed two runs on four hits in the eighth inning. He threw 20 pitches, 15 for strikes. Lindstrom’s appearance was his second on rehab assignment. He’s allowed three runs on five hits over two innings.
• Knights outfielder Jared Mitchell, a member of Chicago’s 40-man roster, was promoted to the Charlotte Knights from Class AA Birmingham. He takes the roster spot of outfielder Blake Tekotte, who was traded to the Arizona organization. First baseman Dan Black was assigned to Birmingham, and RHP David Cales was activated off the disabled list and also assigned to Birmingham.
Savannah 1, Hickory 0: The visiting Crawdads were held to two hits. Champ Stuart (Brevard College) singled in Victor Cruzado in the seventh.
Kannapolis 10, Augusta 5: All but one Intimidator starter got a hit as they use nine early runs to cruise to the win. Kannapolis (52-58) had a four-run second inning to set the tone for its 13-hit day.
