Charlotte Mecklenburg library to host slavery discussion

A Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branch will host a panel Saturday featuring two men, former Myers Park classmates Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick and De Kirkpatrick, who recently learned that the ancestor of one owned the other’s ancestor as a slave.

“Stirring the Ashes: Can We Live With the Discomfort of Talking Openly About Slavery?” will start at 2 p.m. at Morrison Regional Library, 7015 Morrison Blvd.

The Observer detailed the story of the two men this year, and the author of the story, Gary Schwab, will serve as panel host.
