The big traffic trouble spot at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday is northbound Interstate 85 near the Mecklenburg-Gaston county line.
A multi-vehicle wreck was reported about 8 a.m. near Sam Wilson Road. Injuries were involved, and at last check, traffic was snarled for several miles back into Gaston County. Motorists headed toward Charlotte can expect delays for the next half-hour or so.
And moments ago, a wreck was reported on northbound I-77 near the John Belk Freeway interchange. Injuries and a pinned-in motorist were being reported.
There are a number of other problems at this time, including heavy congestion on southbound I-77 in the Huntersville-Cornelius area and on the inner loop of I-485 in southeast Mecklenburg.

Eastfield Road at Highland Creek Parkway ... Collision; moderate delays.
I-77 northbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion from an earlier collision; traffic moving 20-25 mph from mile marker 22 to mile marker 25.
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.
Sharon Amity Road at Milton Road ... Collision; moderate delays.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
Sardis Road at Randolph Road ... Collision; moderate delays.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
South Tryon Street at Shopton Road ... Collision; moderate delays.
Wilkinson Boulevard at Suttle Avenue ... Collision; minor delays.
I-85 northbound at Sam Wilson Road ... Collision with injuries; traffic moving 5-10 mph from the Lowell-McAdenville exit up to Sam Wilson Road; alternate routes encouraged.
Billy Graham Parkway ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph between West Boulevard and I-85.
I-77 northbound at John Belk Freeway ... Multi-vehicle wreck with injuries; heavy delays.
I-85 northbound, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-40 mph from U.S. 321 up to the Catawba River area.
U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph in each direction between I-85 and Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
