Charlotte firefighters rescued two cats Wednesday morning in a fire that damaged a family’s home in the eastern part of the city.
At least one of the animals needed resuscitation from emergency crews. Officials said both cats – named Moe and Homer – are expected to survive.
The fire was reported about 10:45 a.m. at a single-story brick house in the 6600 block of Bluestone Court, near the intersection with Cedarwild Road. That is in a neighborhood off Idlewild Road, near Idlewild Road Elementary School.
Charlotte fire Capt. Dennis Gist said crews found heavy flames coming from the house when they arrived.
A family of two adults and two children was displaced by the blaze. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control will care for the cats until the family finds housing.
Fire officials are investigating to determine a cause and the amount of damage. The Observer’s Davie Hinshaw contributed.
