Timothy Massey, 32, of Charlotte was sentenced Thursday in a Charlotte federal courtroom to 12 years in prison on federal gun and drug charges, prosecutors said.

A Charlotte man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on federal drug and gun charges, according to prosecutors.

Timothy Massey, 32, was sentenced Thursday in a federal courtroom in Charlotte. Prosecutors said Massey pleaded guilty last November to charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

According to court documents, Massey was arrested during a May 2012 traffic stop by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Officers reported finding a gun and marijuana in a backpack stored in the trunk of the vehicle Massey was driving.

Previous convictions prohibited Massey from carrying a weapon, prosecutors said.

Federal sentences are served without possibility of parole, prosecutors said. Massey will have two years of supervised release after his prison sentence ends, authorities said.
