SYRACUSE, N.Y. Tyler Moore’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Syracuse Chiefs to a walk-off 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights on Thursday at NBT Bank Stadium. The first-place Chiefs won three of the four games in the series.
The game was knotted at 1 entering the ninth inning. The Knights went down in order in the top half of the inning and failed to push across a run against Syracuse reliever Aaron Barrett (1-0, 0.00). In the bottom of the ninth, Charlotte called on reliever Jarrett Casey (0-1, 1.54) to keep the Chiefs from winning the finale. Casey threw just two pitches as Moore connected on his the second one for the game-winning home run.
Charlotte starter Chris Beck gave up just one run on six hits while striking out five.
Charlotte scored its run in the top of the seventh inning on a Michael Taylor sacrifice fly.
Greensboro 4, Kannapolis 3: The Grasshoppers used leadoff home runs in the sixth and seventh innings to overtake the Intimidators on Thursday at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro.
Avery Romero opened the bottom of the sixth with a game-tying home run off Brad Salgado, and one inning later, J.T. Riddle launched a homer to right.
Delmarva 1, Hickory 0: Delmarva scored the game’s only run in the top of the seventh inning on a RBI from designated hitter Austin Wynns. Hickory starter Frank Lopez pitched five scoreless innings.
