Warm, sunny weekend expected for the Charlotte area

Forecasters expect a sunny and warm weekend for the Charlotte area, with little chance of rain till early next week.

A cool, dry air mass remains in place and a high of 87 degrees is expected Friday, said National Weather Service Meteorologist John Tomko.

Highs for both Saturday and Sunday will likely reach the low 90s, he said, and “gradually moisture will start creeping back into the area.”

Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s, appoaching 70 degress toward the end of the weekend.

While cloud cover will gradually build over time, Tomko said, rain isn’t expected around Charlotte till Monday, though showers could start in the mountains on Sunday.
