Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin expects double coverage from Chiefs

After catching his first touchdown pass last week against the Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin expects to see more press coverage at the line of scrimmage, and more double coverage in Sunday’s exhibition against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rivera said the Panthers’ defense has thrown several new looks at Benjamin this week, including jamming him at the line, rolling a safety to his side of the field and doubling him, in an attempt to get him ready for NFL defenses.

“It’s probably a little bit different than what he experienced in college,” Rivera said. “But still in this game it really is a matter of how you handle it. He’s done a pretty good job.”

Benjamin, who is 6-5 and 240 pounds, said he’s been working a lot against press coverage, and has to know his role if he draws an extra defender against the Chiefs.

“If that happens, I just need my other receivers to come step up and I’ll clear it out for them,” he said.
