CHARLOTTE Former N.C. State standout Carlos Rodon – the third overall pick by the Chicago White Sox in this year’s Major League Baseball draft – will make his Class AAA debut with the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday.

Rodon, a native of Holly Springs, is expected to start game for the Knights on Tuesday against the Gwinnett Braves.

Rodon, 21, posted a 0-0 record with a 1.86 ERA in four games for Winston-Salem (Class A Advanced), including two starts. The left-hander had 15 strikeouts and five walks for the Dash.

Rodon made his professional debut on July 22 for the Arizona League White Sox. He appeared in two games for the team and allowed two runs on four hits over three innings.

Knights top Bulls

Jared Mitchell’s ninth-inning, two-run home run off Josh Lueke led the Charlotte Knights to a 6-5 win over the Durham Bulls. Charlotte scored three runs in the ninth inning and snapped a four-game losing streak.

The home run by Mitchell – his seventh of the season with Charlotte – gave way to Charlotte closer Taylor Thompson, who came on in the bottom of the ninth inning for the save.

South Atlantic

Hickory 6, Delmarva 2: The Crawdads pounded out 15 hits, including two home runs, en route to snapping their six-game losing streak with the home win.
