No injuries were reported Friday night when fire destroyed a vacant house south of Gastonia, authorities say.

The blaze was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. at a single-story residence in the 300 block of Queens Road, a little more than a quarter-mile west of U.S. 321, about 3 miles south of Gastonia.

Firefighters found flames coming from the roof, windows and doors of the building when they arrived. A spokesman for Crowder’s Mountain Fire and Rescue said crews went into a defensive mode, because the house was vacant and because of the severity of the fire.

A crew of 22 firefighters put out the blaze in a little more than 20 minutes. Authorities said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
