Child drowns in SE Charlotte pool

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say an 8-year-old boy drowned Saturday night in a southeast Charlotte swimming pool, authorities said.

The drowning was reported about 8:30 p.m. at a pool in the 1700 block of Renard Ridge Road. That is at a condominium complex off Monroe Road, near Village Lake Drive.

A chain link fence surrounds the pool, and it is not clear if the pool was still open for the night.

Medic reported rushing the victim patient to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but police later confirmed that the child had died. Police remained at the scene late Saturday, conducting an investigation.
