Girl, 5, dies from injuries in Lancaster County crash

LANCASTER A 5-year-old child has died following a Friday night crash in Lancaster County.

The girl died at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte on Saturday, succumbing to her injuries from the accident, said Lance Cpl. David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The deputy coroner has identified the girl as Justice Jackson-Pope, according to The Herald's news partner, WSOC-TV.

The accident only involved one car and happened around 10 p.m. on Green Road about two miles east of Great Falls. The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, was not wearing a seat belt and was airlifted to Palmetto Health in Richland. Another passenger, an 8-year-old boy, was also airlifted to Palmetto Health. He was wearing a seat belt.

The front seat passenger, a 21-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Justice was wearing a seat belt, according to Jones. She was airlifted to CMC.

The crash is still under investigation.
