Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say an 80-year-old woman reported missing Monday afternoon has been found, is safe, and has been reunited with her family.

Police ended the alert for Sarah Whitner about 3 a.m. Tuesday, as the missing woman was found overnight.

Family members told police Whitner was last seen about 10:30 a.m. Monday near Randolph and Sharon Amity roads, when she went looking for her dog. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police’s Animal Care & Control found the dog later Monday.
