A Statesville-area man faces charges in Iredell County and could face federal charges after sheriff’s deputies say they found firearms at the suspect’s home.
Kenneth Dewey Nicholson, 60, was arrested Tuesday at his home on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Deputies had gone to Nicholson’s home on Trinity Road as part of a routine check of registered sex offenders. Authorities said Nicholson was convicted in 1995 of indecent liberties with a child and in 2009 of sexual battery.
As a convicted felon, he is not permitted to have firearms. But deputies said they found several guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in a closet at Nicholson’s home.
Investigators said the case has been sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, so prosecutors can decide whether federal charges will be brought against Nicholson.
