Minimum-custody inmate Michael Brown escaped from a work assignment at the Alexander County Animal Shelter in Taylorsville on Friday.

Authorities on Friday evening apprehended minimum-custody inmate Michael Brown, who escaped from a work assignment in Taylorsville earlier in the day.

Brown was caught in neighboring Catawba County at after 7 p.m., multiple media outlets reported. At 9 p.m., N.C. Department of Public Safety spokesman Keith Acree confirmed Brown’s capture and said the department would release more details later Friday night.

Brown was serving at least 6 1/2 years for breaking and entering and being an habitual felon.

He left his work assignment at the Alexander County Animal Shelter sometime after 2:30 p.m and is believed to have stolen a county-owned pickup truck from the shelter.

Authorities found the truck on Edd Burgess Road in Taylorsville, Acree said.
