Legion band performs free concert today

American Legion members are taking part in a number of community involvement events in the Charlotte area during the national convention, including a concert by a Legion band Saturday afternoon in the Matthews-Mint Hill area.

The Roaring 9th Band, a 30-member group based in Moorhead, Minn., will perform at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road. That is just west of Matthews-Mint Hill Road (N.C. 51).

The Roaring 9th Band performs a variety of American standards, ranging from pop music to old-time favorites like "Roll Out the Barrel."

The concert is open to the public, and there is no admission charge.

Church officials say the concert is a family event, with adults and children welcome.
